    What is a same-day sick visit?

    During a same-day sick or urgent visit at Asheville Medicine & Pediatrics, one of our physicians evaluates you or your child when you aren’t feeling well or have an acute medical concern. Our team offers same-day urgent visits because we understand the importance of immediate medical care with your physician during times of illness or medical concern. Asheville Medicine & Pediatrics wants to help you or your child make a full recovery and avoid unnecessary visits to urgent care centers and emergency rooms.

    What are same-day sick visits used for?

    You might schedule a same-day sick visit if you or your child experiences one or more of the following symptoms:

    • Vomiting or diarrhea

    • A fever lasting more than two or three days

    • A high fever

    • Sore throat with a headache or fever

    • A widespread rash

    • Unusual symptoms lasting more than three days

    • Trouble breathing

    • Confusion or fainting

    • Urinary issues

    What should I expect during a same-day sick visit?

    When you or your child arrives at Asheville Medicine & Pediatrics for a same-day sick visit, our team checks weight, temperature, and other vital signs. We review symptoms and medical history and examine the patient’s eyes, nose, ears, throat, breathing, heartbeat, abdomen, limbs, and/or reflexes as necessary.

    We may complete blood tests, urine tests, throat swabs, or imaging procedures to diagnose the condition and establish the most appropriate treatment.

    Which treatment will our team recommend?

    The personalized sick visit treatment plan is based on the type and severity of the illness. We might recommend one or more of the following:

    • Antibiotics

    • Medicines that offer symptom relief

    • Breathing treatments

    • Rest and fluids

    • A cool mist humidifier
